Did you know that „Łódź” means „boat” in Polish? There are many legends or stories around the origin of the city’s name, but none is assumed true. One of them tells a story of a man who made himself a shelter by turning his boat upside down and thus the settlement built by him and his descendants was named „Łódź”.

If you’re wondering how to pronounce the word, try saying the English phrase „would you” and drop the word „you”.

Interestingly, EAHIL 2020 logo is based on the city’s coat of arms which depicts a golden boat with a golden oar against a red shield.
